Research Interest:

I am an electrophysiologist passionate about the neural mechanisms of neuropathic and inflammatory chronic pain, as well as their associated comorbid mood disorders, such as depression and anxiety.

During my undergraduate and PhD work at the Spanish universities of Seville and Cadiz, I have studied how the sensorial and affective-emotional functions can be affected by chronic pain. Concretely, I have investigated the function of noradrenergic locus coeruleus neurons in several pain models as an essential regulator of ascending and descending pain pathways. Moreover, I am interested in the neurobiological mechanisms underlying the effect of antidepressant treatment on both sensorial and affective dimensions of pain.

From 2013 to 2016, I have realized my postdoctoral stay at Dr. Dallel’s lab (Neurodol, Clermont-Ferrand, France), following the studies initiated for Dr. Antry. I have explored the implication of PKCy interneurons, from the medullary dorsal horn (MDH), in the occurrence of mechanical allodynia under inflammatory pain conditions, as well as their modulation by the serotoninergic system. This work resulted so far in one publication in Pain journal in 2015, and another manuscript that is in advanced stage of preparation.

I am currently working as lecturer in the Sensory Biophysics Department at the Faculty of Pharmacy (Neurodol, Clermont-Ferrand, France). I am interested in the neuronal mechanisms involved in the phathogenesis of  photophobia, an abnormal sensitivity to ligth, affecting 80% of patients suffering migraine.

- Electrophysiology: In vivo single-unit extracellular recordings of neurons

                              Ex vivo electrophysiological patch-clamp recording of neurons

- Animal behavioural assessment: Nociceptive behaviours (von Frey, paw pressure, plantar, acetone tests, etc.)

                                                 Anxiety-like behaviours (open field, EZM, EPM, LDB tests)

                                                 Depression-like behaviours (mFST, tail suspension test, sucrose test)

                                                 Memory and cognition: radial maze, morris water maze, etc.

                                                 Light aversion: mEPM, mLDB.

                                                 Locomotor activity: rotarod test

- Animals models: Stress (chronic mild stress, restraint stress)

                             Acute and chronic pain (CFA, chronic constriction injury of sciatic nerve, diabetic neuropathy)

                             Diabetes: db/db mice, STZ model

                             Migraine and photophobia: ISDN administration

- Cell biology: Western blotting and immunoprecipitation of proteins
